News Setting
While most official scenes will occur at Hogwarts, we have other areas built for other times of year, and for plot purposes. PCs should not, however, feel free to wander to these areas during regular RP. Students will not have free access, as an example, to Diagon Alley during the school term, nor will most students or faculty members actually ever have free reign of Durmstrang or Beauxbatons. If you feel you should have access to an area, please let staff know so that they can work with you.

News Spells
There are some spells which are acceptable for almost anyone to learn, including first years, who may roleplay knowing them once they have attended their first two weeks of classes. This is a partial list, but anything not appearing on it ought to be asked about before roleplay occurs about them.
- Wingardium Leviosa (levitation - this will not levitate heavy amounts at first! the amount will go up gradually)
- Lumos (light - causes the wand to light up)
- Bluebell Flames (these should NOT be blue unless specifically learned from Hermione Granger; is a small fire, able to be carried in a jar without causing the jar to become too hot to hold - will warm a small radius above the jar, and can be used to set fire to other things)
- Leglocker Curse (causes the victim's legs to be locked together until the countercurse is performed)
These are spells with are forbidden for students to learn without checking with staff FIRST. This is a partial list, again, but anything not appearing on this list should be asked about before roleplay occurs about them.
- Cruciatus Curse (Pain curse)
- Imperius Curse (Mandatory obedience)
- Avadra Kedavra (Killing curse)
- Patronus (creates a guardian, particularly effective against Dementors)
Always talk to staff before using a spell that your character might not know or that might not work in a given area - if you're in doubt, ASK. We'll be glad to help!
