News Magic
Magic is an inherent and integral part to the world of Harry Potter. In a game based predominantly on a boarding school for upcoming witches and wizards, there is simply no way it can be avoided, nor should it be. Here are a list of things which should be kept in mind :
Wands are required for all magic unless staff explicitly states otherwise. Among the sole exceptions is the Transfiguration of the Animagus; there will be VERY FEW Animagus PCs allowed, however, which are not already canon FCs (Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, Minerva McGonagall). If you are applying for a student who is an Animagus, expect that there is a very high probability your application will be rejected.
There are, of course, spells other than those listed in the books. Players should, however, check with staff before making up their own spells, and students should NOT roleplay being able to cast spells beyond their year. First years will begin knowing no or nearly no spells, and advance accordingly.
There are some spells which will simply be on the proscribed list entirely, and if a student PC wishes to know any of these spells, staff must be contacted before ANY knowledge of the spell is roleplayed.

News Meetings
Herein are a list of basic rules and guidelines for OOC meetings which take place on ASiT. They apply for staff as well as players; perhaps -especially- for staff. If you find you have questions about these, contact Shadowfey.
- Be polite. - Self explanatory, one hopes. It's hard sometimes, to communicate; tempers can get heated.
- Ask questions. - Don't assume that you're on the same wavelength as someone else. People's minds do work differently.
- Be there. - Be there, be there, be there. This is important. Don't say you'll be there and not show up without contacting someone first. Your input is important.
- Be /there/. - Be at the meeting and not somewhere else - or five somewhere elses. If someone says something to you, it's not reasonable to expect them to wait 10-20 minutes for your answer. And in a meeting, things NEED to keep moving - if you're the holdup, then people are going to be upset, and you'll end up wondering why.
- Don't overcommit. - Don't bite off more than you can chew. It's great for you to volunteer, but if you volunteer for something, people will expect you to do it. This is not unreasonable of them. If you then don't, people will be upset.
- /Ask questions/. - If you're not sure of something, even if you have to ask in page, do ask. An ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure.
This really applies primarily to meetings of an Out Of Character nature, but is equally applicable to other things as well. Call them common sense guidelines if you like. And if you have questions ... as always, ask!

News Mischief
Boys will be boys ... and girls will be girls, even. Everyone loves a good prank now and then! We know pranks are going to happen, and that they're almost a way of life to some people. We only ask a few things of you before a prank happens:
- If the prank is going to affect a widespread group of people in a very negative way or cause anyone physical harm (for example, enchanting Bludgers to explode violently when they're close to someone), you MUST clear the prank with staff first.
- You can imply that something is headed someone's way, but let them decide if it connects or not when a prank is going on - posing someone else's actions is known as powerposing.
- Last, but certainly, CERTAINLY not least, remember that ICA=ICC (In Character Actions = In Character Consequences). Don't expect to get off free if a Prefect or a member of faculty finds out about your prank. Points will be taken off if the offense is punishable enough, and it doesn't matter whether you're logged on at the moment or not. The points system allows for points to be taken off at any time, not just right after the prank has occurred. Your Housemates also have the right to react accordingly, so if too many points are deducted, don't expect a hero's welcome! Please, please keep this in mind!
As always, if you've got any questions about pranks and mischief (if something is allowed, etc.), contact a member of staff with your questions.
