News Activity
Players are expected to maintain a certain minimum level of activity in play. Feature Characters of course must put more time in than Original Characters, as they are in many ways what 'defines' the flavour of the game.
The minimum amount of time we will accept for FCs is 10 hours of active play per week (which means that idling or otherwise hanging out OOC or in private places is not considered 'activity').
OCs may put in as little as 5 hours a week, though more is encouraged on both OC and FC parts.
'WHAT IF' RP IS NOT CONSIDERED GRID-ACTIVE. While you are welcome to do as much 'What if' roleplay as you desire, it is not considered applicable towards maintaining an IC presence, and thus, does not count towards those 5/10 hours.

News Age-Disclaimer
The staff of ASiT herein warns any players that while this is a Harry Potter-based game, some language and themes may not be appropriate for all audiences. It is up to the responsible guardians or parental authorities to monitor their child's access to the internet : the majority of the players on this game are above the age of minority and may at times use language which is inappropriate/deemed 'impolite' for younger children. Similiarly, we do not monitor private roleplay and/or scenes for age-appropriateness. While we do strive to maintain purity to the canon for contiguous scenes, we cannot and do not vouch for all scenes which occur on this game. If you are in doubt - then this game may not be the right game for you or your child.

News Alternatives
Since we have a clear 'What If' policy, this
does mean that people may choose to roleplay FCs without application in 'What If' scenes and plots. If it is a 'MUSH wide' plot, then this must be cleared with staff - however, in private 'What If' scenarios, anyone may choose to roleplay any FC at any time without worry about censure from staff. Keep in mind, again, that these 'What Ifs' bear no relationship to ongoing storylines and continuity, nor to the applied-for and accepted players of the FCs.

News Animagi
In the past hundred years, there have been less than a dozen animagi. Of these, less than one quarter of that number managed to become animagi while still students. All of these lucky few were what are collectively known as the Marauders.
Becoming an animagus is a difficult thing, close to impossible. Why, you ask, is it so difficult? Animagi must manage to shift back and forth into and from their animal form (and no animagus has more than one animal form) without benefit of speech, and without benefit of wands. This is difficult for most fully trained, constantly in practice witches and wizards; it doesn't get any
easier for students.
It is also more difficult for those of younger age because their bodies are still growing and changing. To wit : if you are going to utterly change your entire physical, metaphysical, chemical, and mental shape and then change back and still be 'yourself', it's easier if you are 'yourself' in a comparatively static (as opposed to changing) state of being in the first place. This makes 'animagus' prodigies who can master animal forms at young ages pretty much nonexistent.
A very rare few, however, possess the relevant determination and innate magical talent, combined with the mental preparedness, intellectual ability, and physical stamina and flexibility to become animagi while still students. They are exceptionally rare, and their numbers strictly limited, and often, undiscovered. Students studying to become animagi must have begun training no later than their fourth year (in secret or with assistance) and cannot take animal form sooner than their sixth or seventh year. If you have questions, contact staff.

News Applications
There are two kinds of characters available : Feature Characters, and Original Characters. Feature Characters are characters listed in the books, and must be applied for with some form of 'proof' given that the character's personality and history is known and understood. Original characters must have some history and family background given, and if not applied for as a first year student (if a student), give information on House, student history, etc.
We are not accepting applications for Muggles, for 'wrong House' students (ie, Slytherins who act like Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs who belong in Slytherin, etc), house elves, or nonhuman characters (gryphons, unicorns, vampires) even if they 'look' human, with the exception of the various House ghosts. We are also not accepting applications for any FCs who have been killed off in the books already.
